Homeless Assistance

Substance Abuse

  • DOH provides central intake for substance abuse treatment services including inpatient and outpatient care. Call (202) 727-0668.
  • DOH provides medical detoxification services. Call (202) 727-5163.

 

Employment

  • The Department of Employment Services (DOES) directs the Welfare to Work Program to help adults develop job-hunting skills and obtain employment. Call (202) 724-7100.
  • DOES provides employment programs in shelters and transitional housing sites.

Aging

The DC Office on Aging (DCOA) provides funding for shelter services for individuals and couples over 60 years of age.

Education and Recreation

  • The DC Public Schools (DCPS) Homeless Program provides tutorial assistance for students and families in emergency shelters.
  • DCPS provides technical assistance, school supplies and transportation assistance for homeless children. Call (202) 576-5600.
  • DCPS and Parks and Recreation provide educational activities for homeless children. Call (202) 673-7660.

Child Welfare

  • Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) and the Community Partnership fund the Sasha Bruce Shelter for runaway teens. Call (202) 442-6100 or (202) 546-4900.
  • CFSA administers the Family Unification Program, which provides Section 8 Vouchers to eligible CFSA families. Call (202) 727-2405.
  • CFSA administers the independent living program for teens transitioning from foster care to independence.
