Community Services Block Grant
The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program is a federally funded anti-poverty block grant operated through a state-administered network of community and faith-based, not-for-profit organizations. The objective of CSBG is to address the causes of poverty by implementing programs and services that empower low-income families and individuals, revitalize low-income communities and improve the economic self-sufficiency of low-income customers. The Department of Human Services is the state agency responsible for the management, administration and oversight of the CSBG in the District of Columbia.
Services: UPO is the designated Community Action Agency (CAA) for the District of Columbia, and represents a city-wide network of multiple organizations helping to create, coordinate and deliver CSBG programs and services. The targeted program priority areas are as follows: Employment, Education, Income Management, Housing, Emergency Services, Nutrition, Coordination and Linkage, Self-sufficiency and Health.
